The weather is one thing all year
Singapore sits one degree north of the equator. Assume around thirty degrees, assume humidity, assume rain at some point in the day, every day.
Every indoor room is air conditioned hard. Locals carry a layer for offices and restaurants, not for outside.
An umbrella is more useful than a raincoat. Rain arrives fast, empties itself, and is gone in twenty minutes.
Linen and short sleeves. A suit jacket at a Singapore conference is a costume, not a requirement.
It is genuinely safe
Walking alone at night is normal, at any hour, in any neighbourhood. This is not a claim people hedge here.
Petty theft is rare enough that people leave laptops on cafe tables while they queue. Do not copy that habit into your next city.
Drug laws are severe and enforced without exception. This is the one line that genuinely matters and it is not negotiable.
A spare evening
Gardens by the Bay and the Supertree Grove, which lights up twice a night and is free to watch from the ground.
The Marina Bay waterfront loop, walkable end to end in about an hour, and the best view of the skyline you are here for.
The shophouse streets around Chinatown, Tanjong Pagar and Katong for the version of the city that predates the towers.
Sentosa if you want a beach, fifteen minutes from the centre.
Leaving, and the region
Kuala Lumpur is forty five minutes by plane, or five and a half hours by coach from about twenty dollars on seats that recline nearly flat.
Flights to the rest of Southeast Asia run fifty to a hundred dollars, so bolting a few days onto the end of the trip is cheap.
Changi wants you there ninety minutes before a short-haul flight, which is generous given how fast it moves.
If you are staying past the Grand Prix, the island empties out on the Monday and everything is suddenly bookable again.
